The History of Milliken Manor
Milliken Manor was built in the year 1790 by Lieutenant Alexander Milliken.
Known as the first brick building in Jaffrey, the tavern served as a stopping place for travelers by stagecoach from Boston to the Connecticut River. The property has evolved over time with new owners updating, altering, and adding to the building. We like to believe that each owner added their own special touch to be remembered in the history of Milliken Manor.
Interestingly, Milliken Manor is also the first location in Jaffrey on which an airplane has landed! Georgina Yeatman lived at the estate with her family. She was an architect and aviator, and she utilized the field for landing and take offs. It is rumored that Amelia Earhart landed her plane in the same field as she had ties to Dublin, New Hampshire, and at the time Milliken Manor was the closest airfield. The first landing in Jaffrey was on June 12, 1932. At the time, the property was named Chislehurst Farm and was owned by Georgina’s father, Pope Yeatman, a mining engineer.
The history of the manor speaks to the versatility of the space and demonstrates all that the property has to offer. The spaciousness of the grounds, the beauty of the location, and the expansions of the building provide the perfect setting and opportunity for having your wedding or event be a part of its history.
